STEERING AND ALUMINIUM SHIFT PADDLES
Natural and instinctive, precise and direct, Tonale offers direct steering ratio, 13.6. Combined with advanced front-wheel suspension systems, it redefines how a SUV should feel on the road. Tonale also features another distinctive Alfa Romeo trait: all-aluminium, mono-block, steering column-mounted paddle shifters. Even with an automatic transmission, the paddle shifters offer a responsive and exciting alternative to any drive or journey.
PERFECT WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION
The balance of weight between the two axles provides an unparalleled level of driving pleasure. Tonale is equipped with front-wheel drive- that uses the excellent balance of masses to optimise torque delivery on the ground and handling on corners.
BRAKE BY WIRE TECHNOLOGY AND BREMBO CALIPERS
Alfa Romeo Tonale is equipped with the cutting-edge “brake by wire” system, known as IBS. Innovation and performance, mechanics and electronics, all come together to provide increased brake responsiveness on the road and the best brake pedal feeling. This system allows you to maximise energy regeneration with zero vibrations and shortened stopping distances. Overall braking performance is enhanced by the adoption of fixed calipers by Brembo, with 4 pistons and self-ventilated discs at the front and full discs at the rear.
ALFA ROMEO ELECTRONIC SELF-LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL
Tonale Hybrid comes standard with the Alfa Romeo electronic self-locking differential to guarantee perfect traction for a smooth driving experience, emphasising the agility and sporty character of this car. Built into the DNA selector and combined with the MacPherson front suspension, this system ensures sporty and effective driving dynamics by controlling the vehicle stability, and by redirecting the power to the wheels when accelerating on corners. It also provides greater control on slippery surfaces, as well as greatly reduces understeer, transferring the torque from the inner to the outer wheel in order to ensure longitudinal acceleration and consequently better road holding.
INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY, TOP CONTROL
Tonale takes a step forward in elevating the synergy of man and machine for a more visceral driving experience with the latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). By reaching Level 2 Autonomous Driving, everyone onboard can appreciate the added control and comfort.
LEVEL 2 AUTONOMOUS DRIVING
The vehicle has achieved Level 2 Autonomous Driving thanks to a front-mounted camera to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings, laterally and longitudinally in combination with three other systems: Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and Traffic Jam Assist. These three systems interact to maintain the correct position on the road with minimal driver intervention. These features assist in keeping the vehicle at the correct speed, in the centre of its lane, greatly reducing the possibility of collisions, while constantly checking the vehicle’s surroundings in congested traffic where accidents often occur.
ACTIVE BLIND SPOT ASSIST
Blind Spot Detection monitors the driver’s blind spots while driving, visually warning them on the side mirrors when another vehicle is in their blind spot. Plus, the system offers a corrective steering manoeuvre to avoid a collision with vehicles in the hidden blind spot. Rear Path Detection is activated while the vehicle is moving in reverse: it helps when backing out of parking spaces and other reduced visibility situations. It also alerts the driver when something approaches the vehicle laterally.
360° VIEW CAMERA
The 360° View Camera offers an all-round view of the car’s surroundings on the 10.25” digital touchscreen with a dynamic grid. This system features four high-definition cameras positioned on the front grille, rear view mirrors, and tailgate for easier parking and manoeuvring in tight spaces.
LANE KEEP ASSIST
Lane Keep Assist alerts the driver if the vehicle is unintentionally leaving its lane and automatically intervenes to correct its path and direct it back into its lane.
TSR & INTELLIGENT SPEED CONTROL
The Traffic Sign Recognition system uses the onboard camera to identify traffic signs: it reports them on the display and alerts the driver of the current speed limit. The Intelligent Speed Control suggests reducing the speed to the detected limit. If the driver accepts, the cruise control settings are automatically adjusted.
EMERGENCY BRAKING
Using the front mounted camera to visually and audibly warn the driver of a stopped vehicle, pedestrians, or cyclists ahead. If the driver is unable to stop in time, the system autonomously brakes the vehicle to avoid or mitigate a collision.
DRIVER BEHAVIOUR WARNING
During long drives sometimes it is necessary to take a break. The program monitors the movements of the vehicle and the drowsiness of the driver and warns through alert signals and the symbol of a coffee cup on the display and encourages them to pullover and rest.
REAR SEAT REMINDER ALERT
The Rear Seat Reminder Alert system is designed to detect the presence of an object in the rear seat. This system activates at the beginning of each drive if the driver opens a rear door. At the end of the drive, when the vehicle is turned off, the device alerts and reminds the driver to check the rear cabin before leaving.
HYBRID 118kW VGT Engine
The 118kW Hybrid VGT (Variable-Geometry Turbo) is equipped with front-wheel drive and new hybrid technology. Its variable-geometry turbocharger paired with 7-speed Alfa Romeo TCT dual-clutch transmission and the 48-volt 15-kW, 55-Nm “P2” electric motor make it possible for the 1.5L petrol engine to propel the wheels even when the internal combustion engine is turned off. Alfa Romeo has opted for this technical solution to offer an authentic electrified experience. The transmission enables startup and travel in electric mode at low speeds and when parking and cruising, ensuring the typical performance of a petrol engine but with consumption (petrol + electric) comparable to a diesel engine, with extremely linear power delivery and really brilliant acceleration.
